Scupture Garden and Harbor

We visited a lovely sculpture garden and invited ourselves onto the boat of some very friendly Uruguaian boaters who owner a hotel and cattle ranch in addition to the 40 foot power boat. Which is sent from one port to another to have the best weather at all time. This is how I would like my life to operate.

Tall ships

Tall ships came in from Spain and Argentina to entertain us.

Carnival

After our high tea at Las Cumbres we tripped onto carnival in Punta, with the sponsorship of the artist of Casapueblo, Carlos Paez Vilaro.

The Party

Alan and Marion, Ivette's lovely mother and the sax player.

Full Moon Anniversary

With a full moon rising, we celebrated their 10th Anniversary.

Las Cumbres

Another fantastic place in Uruguay, a hotel/spa overlooking a beautiful lagoon, another fabulous sunset after high tea to celebrate Ivette and Alan's 10th Wedding Anniversary.

Recycling Montevideo Style

The recyclers are amazing, with bicycles, horses and mules they schlep the streets collecting and recycling. How the maneuver is amazing.

Montevideo

We had a luncheon at the Gottliebs friends house in Montevideo, on the way Ivette bought fruit and met someone she knew, we had one of our cafe, and she met a history teacher from grade school. The woman knows everybody in Uruguay.

Punta Brava Beach

Brava beach in Punta has a sculpture of fingers coming out of the sand. A scuplture with a sense of humor.

Yacht Club, Punta del Este

We had to visit the harbor and yacht club, which is extremely nice as were the managers, who invited us as guest to use the dining room if we desired.

Fishing Villages

Fishing villages line the coast and we are always ready to stop for a bit of sun, or a chivito, the Uruguaian national sandwich, and it is very tasty.

Sunset and art at Casapueblo

The sunsets are fabulous at Casapueblo, actually they are pretty spectacular all around Punta de Este, as the name designates "point to East" which leaves the whole West side for great sunsets.

Medialunas Calentitas

The best pastry, cafe, artsy stop we made often for medialunas, like piles of baby croisants, heated and coated in butter and sugar, what more could one ask for.

Punta with Ivette and Alan

Punta del Este was great. Ivette and Alan took me to all the prime spots, it was a whirlwind tour and all was very beautiful.

Carlos Paez Vilaro

Paez Vilaro is 83 and his health is failing, as he didn't leave the carnival celebration that he has hosted in Punta del Este. His art is very alive and vibrant as is he. Ivette is amazing -- not only did she get us in without charge (she know everybody in Punta) but she following the artist until he took a picture with us.

Casapueblo, Uruguay

Fantastic place, the artist Carlos Paez Vilaro building it from the ground up, his art is incorporated into the lines of the hotel. It is Fabulous.

LaBoca's Caminito

The colors of the homes and a very good sense of humor.

LaBoca's Caminito

Caminito, a fantastic faira area with tango, great leather goods, spectacular are and building of many colors. It is located by the harbor and the home were painted with left over boat bottom paint so they are very vivid colors.

Knits and looms

Most beautiful knits, all hand loomed and fabulous designs.

BsAs No wind

This fellow had wires -- no wind. Too funny, but it had to be difficult to keep the facial expression.

Argentina Beach

There are no hidden beaches that we found -- all crowded with people, some big waves on the Atlantic and much warmer than the Chile Pacific. Vendors selling corn on the beach, such a treat.

San Telmo Wares

The streets are filled with vendors presenting their wares. Some have elaborate displays and some just ride around on a bicycle selling plants.

Buenos Aires Dodge

This is one example of the many old American cars seen on the roads in Buenos Aires. And, it still runs.

San Telmo Street Fair

The Sunday San Telmo street fair, tango in the streets and fine leather belts.

Estancia Cows

There was a draught last year, they are now building up the herd.

Estancia Cow Milking

This is where our warm milk for cafe came from. And, it is not as easy as it seems, if it was up to my success in milking we would be drinking our cafe black. Junior get his share--direct-- when we had our fill. The milker is Fredrico, one of 14 brother, three of which work on the estancia, as does his wife.
